Alexandra College is a part of the Amawele Twinning Project and we are twinned with Mannenburg High School in South Africa. We are working to improve their education system. Our main method of communication with them is via a communication website which our IT Committee created (http://web.me.com/alexandra_mannenburg/Site/Welcome.html). This hosts fortnightly newsletters from both schools, a blog and most importantly lessons. In this weeks meeting, we set out a new lesson plan for the rest of the year. The Science committee are making videos of various science experiments for the students of Mannenburg, and then will have live chats with the students about their reactions to the learning. The Music Committee are working on a CD containing both traditional Irish and African Music, to send to Mannenburg, and they are also preparing videos on how to teach traditional Irish tin-whistle to the students there. As regards to fundraising, Alex are throwing a “Red Nose Day” in aid of Amawele in two weeks and have more events planned for after Easter.
