On Friday, October 16th, 40 members of the College Choir took part in the regional finals of the Co-operation Ireland All Ireland choir Competition. It was quite an achievement to reach this stage of the competition and the girls took it very seriously. They rehearsed diligently, after school and during lunchtimes in the two weeks leading up to the competition. Initially, over 80 schools had entered the competition and that was reduced down to 20 on the basis of a CD, which was submitted in late September. Our two songs were Chilcott: An Irish Blessing and Baker: Feel Good. The Dublin regional final took place in Holy Child Community School, Sallynoggin and was attended by the five regional final schools: Alexandra College, Mount Anville School, Notre Dame School, St. Columba’s College and The King’s Hospital School. All performed with great maturity and professionalism, despite the glare of television cameras and lights! The adjudicators, Dr. Geoffrey Spratt and Mr. Mark Duley were very impressed with the standard of choral singing and declared King’s Hospital the regional winners. While the Alex girls were disappointed, they really did themselves proud and should be very happy with their performance. The programme was broadcast on Sunday, 25th October on RTE1 at 7.30pm and is available in full online. A short film of school life precedes each performance so, look out for yourself or your daughter in this. Many thanks to Mr. Murray who accompanied the girls on Friday and well done to all involved.
