New Music Option: Rockjam (ages 7-13): This new music class gives students a chance to experiment with electric instruments, play pop/rock songs and write their own songs. No musical experience is necessary and instruments are provided. The class will be for one hour and will be limited to groups of 8 students in each class. Barry Rycraft (guitar teacher) will teach the class.

Yearbook Class/Group Photos: Our school photographer, Julie McCoy, will be in the JS next Wednesday to take all the class group photos and also the groups like Green Schools, Student Council, Choir, Orchestra, sports teams etc. These photos will be used in the yearbook. J2-J6 need to be in their brown uniforms on the day and bring red to change into.

J2 and J3 Science Project – The Dodder and Building Bridges

On Friday, 12th May, J2 and J3 used recycled materials to design and construct bridges. Our work was inspired by our recent trip along the Dodder when we saw Milltown Bridge, the Packhorse Bridge, the Nine Arches and Classons Bridge. Each girl drew a plan of a bridge and from these designs, a bridge was collaboratively created by each twin Family Group. The result was five constructions, which included ramps, safety rails, landscaping, vehicles, a pedestrian and even a stalactite. We enjoyed working together and watching each group present their creation in the hall.

J2 Safe Cross Code Assembly

On Friday, 19th May, J2 performed a class assembly on the theme of Road Safety and the Safe Cross Code. We presented our posters, which showed pedestrians, cars, a bus, a lollipop man, a lollipop woman and traffic lights. We sang and danced to the Safe Cross Code song and we encouraged the rest of the classes to perform it with us. We read a prayer, which we wrote and we hope that everyone travels safely wherever they go over the summer. We enjoyed teaching our friends about road safety.

Sports Update

Soccer Semis – Update
At last! After 19 very hard fought and intense games and five penalty shootouts… we have our two Finalists!

Preston and Hull will contest the Grand Finale of our inaugural Soccer League!

We say a big CONGRATULATIONS to the girls on both teams for reaching the final but also to the semi-finalists from Delap and White who were excellent all the way through the competition. Best wishes to Sophia Kenny in J6 who hurt her foot in the Semi-Final… hopefully, she will be fit enough to take the field on Grand Final Day!

On a sad note to end this report, while the final was originally planned for next week, due to a family bereavement suffered by our very own Ms Tracey, we feel it is inappropriate to stage the game at this time and as a mark of respect we will confirm a new date and time as soon as possible. Go dtuga dia suaimhneas síoraí di.

E. Fitzgerald.
