One Act Drama Festival
St Andrew’s College in Booterstown has been hosting a national school’s competition of one-act plays for many years. Alexandra College has put forward a group for this competition as long as it has been running and has had many winning entries over the years. The play is cast from fifth year students who take Speech and Drama classes in school and rehearsals take place over lunchtimes, weeknights and weekends.
In the last three years we have won ‘Best production’ and ‘Best actor’ twice, ‘Runner Up Best Actor’, ‘Best Director’ and the special ‘Adjudicators Award’.
In 2006, Ms Justine Driscoll directed “Shakers” by John Godber and in 2007, she directed “Stags and Hens” by Willy Russell. In 2008, Ms Clodagh Rycraft directed Caryl Churchill’s play “Top Girls”.
This year, Ms Rycraft is entering a group who will perform “Steel Magnolias” by Robert Harling. This is a wonderful competition to be involved with and gives the girls great insight into the world of theatre.
