DRAMA AND STAGE MANAGEMENT

In the first half of this module all the students will work on performance skills and acting technique, the history of theatre and the management structure of a working theatre company. These skills are then put in to practise at the end of this session when they will audition for the play and be interviewed for the stage management team. Mid-way through this option, we begin to rehearse our production for the performance nights which take place either in December or in early February.

This year, as the performance nights were in December, Ms Lynn Brehony directed a forty minute version of the seasonal story “A Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens. Lucy Kelly played the part of Ebenezer Scrooge supported by a very strong cast who provided costumes and props themselves. The backstage crew, ably co-ordinated by Ms Justine Driscoll, did trojan work under the guidance of their stage manager Molly O’Cathain.
EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION

The module in Effective Communication has been designed to encourage the students to develop their creativity and to work on their communication skills. The students will take a Certificate Exam in Effective Communication at the end of the course which is set by The Leinster School of Music and Drama and designed specifically for Transition Year students. This Exam requires the students to work on Interview Technique, Public speaking and vocal training. This is a superb module which can help to prepare the students for their working lives.
