Physics is the fundamental science. It deals with the laws of nature and how they impact on our daily lives. The coursephysics1 provides a good basis for further science study and also for any course where ability to think logically is required.
Science, technology and society (STS) is an integral part of the syllabus so that students can be aware of the principles of the applications of physics in the everyday world.
Physics forms some part of the following courses at third level: Engineering, Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary, Science, Meteorology, Sports Science, Electronics and Computing.
The Physics Department in Alexandra College has a strong focus on the practical aspects of Physics in both the Junior Certificate and Leaving Certificate programmes. The College’s tradition of discovery learning in Science is now an integral part of the new Department of Education and Science syllabi through mandatory experiments.
Physics students have been involved in such competitions as the annual ISTA quiz and the International Physics Olympiad. The Physics teachers in Alexandra College are dedicated to helping students achieve their best in these competitions and in their study and enjoyment of Physics.
