Hockey
Alexandra College has a rich tradition of playing hockey, with the
sport being played in the school for more than 110 years. The first ever test match between Ireland and England was held on the campus and this historical event has served to pave the way for many seasons of success to date.
The sport has been highly developed in the College since that first test match and we are currently very priviledged to have two hockey pitches, one water based and one sand dressed. These wonderful facilities enable us to have 18 hockey teams in the school which are coached by 5 coaches. Alexandra college has achieved some great success in the past and in the last eight years have achieved the following results:
- 2 Senior Cup winners
- 1 Senior League winner
- 2 Senior Cup runners up
- 1 Senior League runners up
- 2 All Ireland Finals Appearances
- 2 Junior Cup winners
- 2 Junior Cup runners up
- 1 Minor Cup winner
- 1 Minor Cup runners up
Although hockey in Alexandra College is steeped in history and competitive results it is primarily based on having fun, meeting friends and enjoying an extra curricular activity in a carefree environment. All of these elements enrich students experience of school and the memories of hockey stay with them long after they leave
