Art Appreciation Week
Our Art teacher, Ms. Smith, has organised a trip to the art gallery for all the classes from KGLower to J6. The girls are really enjoying the guided tours around the different exhibits.
The KGLower students told us, very excitedly, all about their trip to the National Art Gallery of Ireland with Ms. Smith and their class teachers. The looked at Harry Clarke’s stained glass, Yeats’ painting of himself called “The Liffey Swim”, portraits by young artists aged 3 to 17, Monet’s paintings and some of the sculptures too.
After their prayer, they showed us “I See a Song” by Eric Carle.
Great job, KGLowers!
Prayer for Art
Thank you Lord for the artists and creators who use their gifts to make the world a more joyful place.
Thank you Lord for the beautiful art we see all around us.
Thank you Lord for our own creativity. May we use it to express ourselves and to bring joy to the world.
Bebras Challenge Results Announced!
Bebras is an international initiative aiming to promote Informatics (Computer Science, or Computing) and computational thinking among school students at all ages. The Bebras challenges are made of a set of short problems called Bebras tasks and are delivered online. The tasks are fun, engaging and based on problems that Computer Scientists often meet and enjoy solving. The tasks can be solved without prior knowledge, but instead require logical thinking.
Alexandra College Junior School received the great news this week that Alice Kent (J5W), Olivia Wilson (J4W) and Charlotte Xia (J4W) will be competing in the Bebras National Final, which will take place on Saturday 28th March 2020 in Maynooth University as part of Tech Week 2020.
This is a fantastic achievement as only a small amount of students from all over Ireland manage to get through to the final round.
A number of other students in must also be noted for doing well in this competition, all who achieved impressive scores.
J4 Finalists: Olivia Wilson and Charlotte Xia
J4 Runners Up: Claudia Kelly, Zoe O'Beirne, Jessica O'Sullivan, Jessica Walsh and Maebh Cunningham
J5 Finalist: Alice Kent
J5 Runners Up: Susie Bohan, Francesca Darcy, Millie Hartwell, Alex O'Donnell, Olivia O'Connor and Ashley Mullan
We wish Alice, Olivia and Charlotte all the best of luck in this competition and look forward to supporting them in the Finals.
