Thank you for your fantastic support for the Book Fair. It was great to see the girls so excited about buying and reading new books! The school receives 60% commission on the sales total so that will translate into LOTS of free books and teaching resources for every classroom.

Book Sales Total: €5300 – with commission of 60%, we get €3,180 worth of free books and teaching resources for the Junior School.

Father/Daughter Pancake Breakfast

This very popular event on Friday, February 28th is coming up after the mid-term break. If a dad is not available, an uncle, grandad, brother or family friend is more than welcome. Your child can also join another dad in her class too. The money raised all goes to the Alex Bursaries.

Community Helpers

On the topic of Community helpers in Preschool Upper, the children welcomed the visit of two detectives and their two dogs to the Preschool Upper class. The children were fascinated to watch the two dogs observing the commands of Rossa who explained to the children the difference between the two dogs and what purpose they served in the community.  Firstly the little dog, Dutchie was trained to locate drugs, cash and guns. The big dog called Kujo is a tracking dog and this dog has the ability to detect recognise  and follow a specific scent.  The children put on the Garda hats, coats and protective jackets along with the handcuffs and were delighted with themselves. They stood beside the dogs for photographs and were intrigued by the obedience of the dogs. Thanks to Rossa and the dogs for a very enjoyable day!

Friendship Week in the Junior School

Lots of different activities took place this week:

  • Every morning at assembly, our Family Groups read out their special poems.
  • Every class group made a special friendship poster to hang in the reception area.
  • Emily and Lauren organised a popular friendship song for us each morning to end off our morning assembly.
  • On Friday, the whole school made special friendship bracelets in their Family Groups. Thank you to JACA for providing all the materials to make the bracelets.
  • The Student Council organised a Talent Show: “Alex Has Talent” for us all to enjoy before we all go off on our mid-term break.

Special Author Visits

The Junior School is always delighted to welcome local authors and illustrators to share their talent with us. Sarah Webb was wonderful with all the girls from J3-J6, sharing her research on trail-blazing women. She is a big fan of Ann Jellicoe, just like us!

Gerry Daly was very entertaining telling us the about the adventures of a very special puffin. Thank you again to JACA for covering the costs of our special guests.

Safer Internet Day 2020

Well done to Aisling Carty (J2W), Alice Kent (J5W) and Saoirse Jones (J4R) who won our Safer Internet Day poster competition!

All things February!

As our assembly was on Valentine's day, we taught everyone about other days celebrated in February. We all chose a day to learn about and make a poster about what we learned. Some of these days included World Whale Day, Nutella Day and Pangolin Day. Our class’ favourite day was Eat Ice Cream for Breakfast Day (although none of us did it for our project). We all enjoyed doing our projects. Maybe next year you will celebrate some of these days!
