From JACA
JACA and the Green Schools Committee are running another clothing collection in conjunction with Bag2School Ireland. It’s the perfect time of the year to do some Spring Cleaning and to clear out any unwanted clothes and raise money for our school!

This can include adult and children’s clothes, shoes, hats, belts, bags and teddies. Donations of unwanted mobile phones, tablets and digital cameras can also be handed in separately. Bags will be sent home next week and are to returned on Friday, March 8th , full to the brim! We are paid on the amount we donate and 10% of the amount raised will be donated to Laura Lynn House. Feel free to fill any additional black bags-the more we collect the more we raise! Bags were sent home on Thursday and can be left in the Reception area of the Junior School.

Friendship Week: “We all Fit Together!”

Our theme for Friendship Week this week was “We all Fit Together”. There is a wonderful display in our Reception area which has a jigsaw piece of every student in the Junior School. Every morning in Assembly this week, we talked about all aspects of friendship. Sasha and Rachel from J6 also led us in a friendship song that we could all sing along to every day.  Valentine’s Day fell during the week too and the girls enjoyed making cards and other craft items.

On Friday at assembly, the J4R girls continued with the theme at their assembly.

“Friendship is important to us and many others in Alexandra College. In our assembly this week, J4R had a visitor who doesn’t know anything about friendship – Aisling the Alien! J4R explained to our alien visitor what friendship means and sang a song about friendship. We celebrated the many cultures in our school by learning how to say “friend” in many languages, and how different cultures greet each other”. Well done, girls!

Ghyda and Emma (J4R).

We ended our week with a wonderful Talent Show organised by our by the Student Council. Our KGLower, KGUpper and J1 classes performed class songs. All the other classes had pre-selected one item per class – there was a great variety of performances from singers, a band, dances, magic tricks etc. Kate H. and Emily Mc K. from J6 did a fabulous job as MCs for the show – watch out Ant and Dec!

Valentine’s Strings Concert

Our JS orchestra and soloists from both the Junior and Senior Schools performed in a beautiful concert in the SS concourse on Valentine’s Day. It was a real treat for all of us there to hear the talented girls and their teachers perform. Thank you to Ms. O’ Rourke for organising the evening and to all the music teachers for preparing the girls so well.

Sports Update

Jellicoe Cup

On a sunny and mild Wednesday afternoon, all of our J6 and J5 students took part in a hockey blitz. The J6 teams played against the J5 teams in a round robin format.  The winning team was the J6 B Team captained by Freya C.

Well done to all the teams and a big thank you to Ms. Tracey and Mr. McCarthy for organising the afternoon’s event.
