Not to be missed! The 2019 JACA Social Evening
It is only few weeks now until one of our favourite events of the year comes up – our annual JACA Social Evening. This year it will take place again in the beautiful surroundings of the Westin Hotel on Saturday, April 6th 2019. It is always a most enjoyable evening for everyone and a great way for you to meet and catch up with the other parents in your daughter’s class. This year, we will be entertained by some of the TY students who performed in the recent musical, “Made in Dagenham” and also by students who played at the Strings concert on Valentine’s Day. There are lots of amazing prizes to be won, a silent auction and also a fabulous Grand Prize!
You can book your tickets for this wonderful event through your class rep. We look forward to seeing you all on the night!
Seachtain na Gaeilge 2019
Everyone in the Junior School got into the true spirit of Seachtain na Gaeilge with a week of activities celebrating our Irish language and culture. A huge thank you to all the teachers for running the events and preparing the girls so well for our special assembly on Friday. Thank you to the students from J6W too who played popular songs as Gaeilge for us each morning at assembly.
Our activities included:
Tráth na gCeist (Rang 4/5/6)
Céilí Mór – all classes participated. Thank you to the J6 students for leading and teaching
everyone to dance The Siege of Ennis.
Rockjam Showcase (Rockjam students) – five bands performed their own song and then a cover song – a fantastic concert – thank you Mr. Rycraft.
The SS Trad band entertained us all with a special concert. It was a super event.. Well done!
Layla K. and Ainhoa V. performed a song on guitar called “Amhrán Leabhar” accompanied by Mr. Wilson.
JS Special Assembly – all classes performed a wonderful variety of songs, poems, dances and raps as Gaeilge. We ended the assembly with a rousing rendition of our national anthem.
Lá Fhéile Pádraig shona Dhuit!
J2R and J2W Trip to Explorium
On Friday, 8th March, J2R and J2W visited Explorium-National Sport and Science Centre in Sandyford. We spent the day completing science experiments and doing sporting challenges. We saw how balls can float in the air using Bernoulli’s Principle, we learned how to show geographical contours on an interactive model, we explored air pressure and making rockets, we coloured sea creatures which became animated on a huge aquarium screen, we learned about bee pollination, flew on a magic carpet, walked a coloured pathway from memory and measured our running speed. We also attended an interactive talk on conduction and we learned how to connect a small bulb to a battery to make a complete circuit. Some of the girls did an experiment to show the distribution of pressure by lying on a bed of nails. It was not uncomfortable once the girls relaxed and their weight was evenly distributed over the surface. We experienced a gravity room and saw lightning being created. We enjoyed our visit to Explorium and a big thank you to Ms.White, our visiting teacher from America who accompanied us.
