First Year 2019 Meeting for Parents/ Students 10 – 11.30am
All of the J6 students who will be going into First year in the Senior School this September will attend a special meeting next Friday, March 8th starting at 10am in the HWC. The girls may wear comfortable clothes and runners. Parents will attend an important information meeting starting at 10am. The J6 girls need to come to school at the regular time of 8.30am and they will return to class after the meeting.
JACA and the Green Schools Committee are running another clothing collection in conjunction with Bag2School Ireland. It’s the perfect time of the year to do some Spring Cleaning and to clear out any unwanted clothes and raise money for our school!
This can include adult and children’s clothes, shoes, hats, belts, bags and teddies. Donations of unwanted mobile phones, tablets and digital cameras can also be handed in separately. Bags were sent home before mid-term and are to returned on Friday, March 8th. We are paid on the amount we donate and 10% of the amount raised will be donated to Laura Lynn House. Feel free to fill any additional black bags-the more we collect the more we raise! Bags were sent home on Thursday and can be left in the Reception area of the Junior School.

Father/Daughter Pancake Breakfast
There was a great turnout once again for the annual Father/Daughter Pancake Breakfast this morning. George and his staff cooked up hundreds of delicious pancakes for everyone. Thank you for the fantastic support – all funds raised will go to the Alex College Bursaries.
J1/J2 Speech and Drama Success
Mrs. Ashmore was delighted to come to assembly on Thursday to give the J1 and J2 girls the great news that they had all achieved First Class Honours in their Leinster School of Speech and Drama exams. All of the girls have worked so hard over the past months and we are so proud of this achievement. Thank you to Mrs. Ashmore for preparing the girls so well. Well done to everyone!
Preschool Lower – People in our Community
This week in Preschool Lower, the girls are learning about the people who help us in our community.
Guards: On Wednesday, Lottie’s dad and Garda Rossa visited with two police dogs, Kujo and Dutch. The girls learned that the dogs have to go to puppy school and that they live in Garda Rossa’s house. They loved the dogs and got a chance to wear a Garda hat and jacket too.
Doctor: On Thursday, all the girls brought in their sick dolls and teddies as a doctor visited the class. Charlotte’s mum showed the girls how to listen to their breathing with stethoscopes, look in their mouths and ears and also how to bandage their arms and legs of their sick dolls and teddies. Thankfully, all of the patients were very brave.
The girls have had a lot of fun learning about people who help us in our community. They are looking forward to having more visitors over the coming months.
Ms. Brandon and Ms. Malseed
This week J5R celebrated the Welsh feast day of St. David. They researched points of information and shared these with the rest of the Junior School at assembly on Friday. The girls also took this opportunity to explore and learn about a variety of saint and festival days around the world, reminding the students of the diversity within our school. The girls put in a lot of work and retold the facts in a very expressive and creative way, much to the delight of their fellow students.
AIJS Hockey Blitz – A group of girls from J6 will go to Mount Anville on Tuesday, March 5th. They will leave Alex 12.30pm and return at approx. 3.20pm.
