Not to be missed! The 2019 JACA Social Evening
It is only a few weeks now until one of our favourite events of the year comes up – our annual JACA Social Evening. This year it will take place again in the beautiful surroundings of the Westin Hotel on Saturday, April 6th 2019. It is always a most enjoyable evening for everyone and a great way for you to meet and catch up with the other parents in your daughter’s class. This year, we will be entertained by some of the TY students who performed in the recent musical, “Made in Dagenham” and also by students who played at the Strings concert on Valentine’s Day. There are lots of amazing prizes to be won, a silent auction and also a fabulous Grand Prize!
What is the Grand Prize?
Cullen and Co Jewellers (diamond specialists) are delighted to sponsor the main prize for the JACA Social evening – worth €5000! Co-owner and past pupil, Suzanne Gilhooly, will welcome the lucky winner, who will have the unique opportunity to either design a bespoke piece or choose an item of jewellery while enjoying a glass of champagne in the beautiful surroundings of their store.
You can book your tickets for this wonderful event through your class rep. We look forward to seeing you all on the night!
My Fair Lady
Congratulations to Ms Ashmore for her fantastic performance as Mrs Higgins in Glencullen Dundrum Musical & Dramatic Society’s production of My Fair Lady at the Mill Theatre this week!
Eason Spelling Bee 2019
The Junior School is ready to participate in the national Eason Spelling Bee competition again this year. In order to prepare for the Dublin County competition, the Junior School held its own school Spelling Bee on Wednesday morning. Fifty-five enthusiastic girls from J5 and J6 took part in the event. The first round is at an easy level, it follows with a few rounds where the words become harder and then the final rounds are at a very hard level. It took five rounds to make it down to the last two competitors: Eva Murphy (J5R) and Freya Coveney (J6R). You could have heard a pin drop as the girls had to spell works like: “salicaceous”, “electroluminescence’, “vituperate” and “ultrafastidious”.
Our school winner is Freya Coveney (J6R) who correctly spelled “microradiography”. Congratulations, Freya! Freya will progress on to the Dublin County Final on April 2nd in the Carlton Hotel at Dublin Airport.
Well done to all the J5/J6 participants – you were all super competitors!
