Cyber Bullying/ Internet Safety Workshops/ Parent Talk

There was a great turnout of parents on Tuesday evening to hear Ger Brick give us advice on cyber bullying and internet safety. Ger had spent two days in school giving workshops to all of the students in J4, J5 and J6. Students, teachers and parents all agreed that all the information that Ger shared with them was very helpful and worthwhile.

Bebras Challenge Results Announced

Bebras is an international initiative aiming to promote Informatics (Computer Science, or Computing) and computational thinking among school students at all ages. The Bebras challenges are made of a set of short problems called Bebras tasks and are delivered online. The tasks are fun, engaging and based on problems that Computer Scientists often meet and enjoy solving. The tasks can be solved without prior knowledge, but instead require logical thinking.

Alexandra College Junior School received the great news this week that Betty Moore from J5R will be representing her school in the National Bebras Computational Thinking Challenges during Techweek 2019. This was a fantastic achievement as only a small amount of students from all over Ireland manage to get through to the final round, which will be held in Maynooth University in May.

A number of other students in J5R must also be noted for doing well in this competition; Laura van Buylaere, Abigail Moran, Eva Murphy, Charlotte McEnroe and Alessandra Paloni, all who achieved impressive scores.

We wish Betty the best of luck in this competition and look forward to supporting her in the Finals.

PSUpper Lead Assembly

Our Preschool Upper students (4 year olds) wowed us all in assembly this week with their knowledge of the 7 continents and planets. They talked about these topics and showed us their art work too. They also sang two songs related to the continents and planets. Great job, girls!
